Bill many thanks for your thoughts. I agree with you many of the recommendations could apply to other software.

However the focus of this blog is Solid Edge so that’s why the post was about ST4. With so many users currently upgrading to ST4 I wanted to provide relevant information for their success.

Why pick on Solid Ege ST4? You could have used a fill-in-the-blank form for this article. All of your recommendations are perfectly valid for virtually any type of software of any brand.

I have used Solid Edge for 4 years and ST has made it faster to learn and easier to complete tasks .

Jon Sutcliffe says that Yes this is possible in Solid Edge too. Simply open the dwg file into Solid Edge draft, select the geometry you want for the sketch and hit Copy (to the clipboard). Start the part model, make a sketch and hit Paste. Hope that helps…. Can anyone comment on this?

Yes this is possible in Solid Edge too.
Simply open the dwg file into Solid Edge draft
Select the geometry you want for the sketch and hit Copy (to the clipboard)
Start the part model, make a sketch and hit Paste.

Can you bring in a autocad .DWG file into Solid Edge as a sketch for a part?
I can do this in Solid Works, but can’t get it to work in Solid Edge.
